Residents of the Abbotsford and Mission Transition Houses are given priority placement at the Santa Rosa. Referrals are also taken from other social service agencies and providers. Many women self-refer. There is no time limit imposed on how long a resident may stay. Some stay for short periods of time while they find permanent housing, others stay longer and consider Santa Rosa Place their home.
To live in the Santa Rosa, residents must be committed to an alcohol and drug-free life style. It is a women's only building and no men are permitted onsite without staff permission. Santa Rosa Place is a violence-free place and staff and residents work hard to ensure the building is a safe, secure, good quality home.
During the summer months, residents have the opportunity to garden together in the community garden. They can also gather under the arbor for barbecues or to visit.
Women's Resource Society staff, contractors and volunteers have largely finished the interior renovation and hope to begin on a facelift for the exterior during 2009. Although the building is sound, it is also old and patches of stucco need to be repaired, wooden trim needs to be replaced, and the whole exterior needs to be painted. We are committed to a full restoration of this building that has a long history on Mission's main street.
We rely on the generosity of the community in order to maintain Santa Rosa Place. Our thanks to those businesses, organizations and individuals who have donated material, skills and donations to date. If you are interested in helping in any way, please call us at 604-820-8455.
