Donate Funds

Donations to the WRSFV are applied to our housing projects and support programs that receive little or no government funding. Housing projects include: Santa Rosa Place and Taulbut House in Mission, and Penny's Place in Abbotsford. In addition to these established housing projects, the Society is in the process of building a 41 unit, second stage housing complex in Abbotsford. BC Housing is funding the construction but the Society must furnish the building. Your help will be needed. The Warm Zone in Abbotsford, a drop-in centre with wrap-around services for street entrenched women, is also a program your donation may support.

In addition to providing financial support to specific facilities, a donation helps to ensure that the women and children we assist receive help with food and clothing, transportation to necessary appointments, access to recreation, assistance meeting prescription drug costs not covered under the BC Pharmacare plan, and other special supports that would otherwise be unattainable.

You may direct your donation to a specific program or you may keep it general and trust us to allocate it wisely. All donations are acknowledged and receipted. Charitable tax receipts are issued if requested.

Financial donations can be dropped off at our administrative offices in Mission or Abbotsford.

Donations to the WRSFV directly benefit the women and children who live in our second stage housing projects. We receive limited government operational funding to pay for the wrap-around support each woman and child receives when they live in our housing projects. The “silent partners” who donate money help us to ensure that no resident goes without good nutrition, transportation to necessary appointments, opportunities for recreation, and prescription medicines that are not covered by BC Pharmacare.

Donate Items - Current Wish List
Wish List

New Items:
• Large truck or van
• Hygiene products like shampoo, toothbrushes, toothpaste, tampons
• Women's and children's socks, underwear, pajamas
• Fresh and non-perishable food
• Cleaning supplies
•Make –up and nail polish.

Gently Used or New Items:
• Women's and children's clothing, clean and neatly folded
• Blankets and sheets (single/twin), pillows, towels
• Household items, dishes, cookery and kitchen utensils
• Small household appliances - coffee makers, toasters and microwave ovens
• Computers able to run Windows Vista or Windows 7 operating systems
We have a limited amount of storage space and try to fill our shelves with the items most needed by the women and children we serve. Please call us at 604-820-8455 or email admin@wrsfv.ca before dropping off your donation.

Volunteer

Would you like to help women in your community? We have many different opportunities for you to help women and children in your community.

• Skill Sharing- share your specific skills with clients or staff, through workshops, mentoring, or training. Examples: "Legal Booth" is made possible through the generous support of local lawyers. "Mission Piecemakers" – a group of women who get together once a week to share knowledge and skills while making beautiful quilts that are used for fundraising.

• Projects or Events- WRSFV hosts and participates in numerous events each year to raise funds for our programs. The involvement of our volunteers helps make these events fun and successful. Become involved with events like the International Women's Day celebration, Christmas at the Clarke, Celebration of Community. See our Events page to see what we have done in the past year.

• Administrative Support - share your time to help with reception or with sorting and organizing donations. Prefer to work from home? Use your creative skills by helping with website, graphic design and newsletter production.

• Help Victims of Crime – volunteer with Mission Police-Based Victims Services, providing emotional support, information and crisis intervention to people who have been impacted by crime. Next volunteer recruitment begins September 2011.

• Help street-engaged women feel cared about. Volunteer at the Warm Zone. Support can include working directly with the women, helping with site maintenance, or cooking a meal once a week.

• Become a 'fashionista'. Join the group of wonderful volunteers who operate the Fronya Thrift Boutique store in Mission.

Host A Fundraising Event

Would you like to host an event in support of the WRSFV? There are many great ways to have fun, support local women and children and raise awareness around the issue of violence against women and children.

Here are some of the events our supporters have held in the past:
